What are we doing in August?

Homework, Assignment books, Tuesday folders and Accordions

Assignment book/Agenda: Students are required to copy down the Agenda for the day each morning. This should help you keep track of what we are doing in class daily. If an assignment becomes homework, We will write and HW beside it. Please check and sign your child's agenda daily. If you feel concern that things are not getting written down, please feel free to contact me. Kelly.Webb@cobbk12.org.

Tuesday Folders : Each Tuesday your child will bring home graded work in their Tuesday folder. Graded work can be corrected an turned back in on Wednesday (only) for a better grade.

Success Record:If their is a grade of concern or a missing assignment it will be written on the Success Record. Any behavior concerns are also written on this sheet. Please check and sign the sheet daily.

Accordions : These folders are our organizational system. We are using these instead of notebooks and folders. They are excellent to help your child keep up with loose papers. You will find both classwork and homework in these folders. Keep in mind anything that needs to be completed as homework will be written in your child's agenda!

Meet Mrs. Webb

Welcome to Mrs. Webb's fifth grade class. I am so excited about a new and exciting year at Keheley!

Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a native Georgian and Cobb Countian. I am a graduate of the Cobb County school system; attending Norton Park Elementary in Smyrna, Floyd Middle School in Austell, and R.L. Osborne High School in Marietta. After high school I held several jobs including cosmotology, house painting, fast food management, and secretarial positions. I returned to school after marriage and the birth of both of my children. I obtained my Bachelors degree in Education from Mercer University and my Masters in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University.

As mentioned before, I am married. My husband Greg is also a native Georgian and Cobb Countian. We have two Children Victoria and Amanda. Our household is also inhabited by three dogs Tymone, Pebbles and Sampson. Camping and long walks in the woods are our favorite family activities.

Again let me say how glad I am to have your child in my room this year. Please always feel free to come into my classroom. Questions are always welcome. My goal is to help your children grow into responsible and excited learners.

The best way to contact me is through email at: Kelly.Webb@cobbk12.org

Mrs. Webb's Rules and Expectations

Mrs. Webb’s
Rules and Expectations

Welcome to 5th grade! You are in for a great year. This is an outline of my rules and expectations. If you make the right choices and do your personal best throughout the year, you will be successful.

Responsibility
Responsibility is spoken of often and emphasized in everything we do. Being responsible, however, does not mean that you will not get help. You are still learning. I will help you learn strategies to keep yourself organized and successful. Since we are teaching responsibility, not dependency, you will be held accountable for your choices and actions. Please come to school prepared. Phone calls home will not be allowed unless it is an emergency.

Expectations
You will be expected to follow these 7 guidelines to success.
1. Follow directions and listen carefully.
2. Be kind and respect others in words and actions.
3. Be honest in what you say and do.
4. Respect property of others.
5. Complete all work to your personal best.
6. Work and play safely.

Rewards and Consequences
You will have the opportunity to earn many rewards throughout the year if you make great choices. Each child will receive "5 dollars" at the beginning of each week. It is your responsibility to keep up with your money. If you choose to follow the rules and expectations you will keep your money and be able to purchase rewards on Friday. If you choose not to follow the rules and expectations check marks are given on my behavior sheet along with the following daily consequences:

Verbal Warning
1 checkmark – lose of 1 dollar
2 checkmarks – lose of a second dollar and 5 minutes recess
3 checkmarks – lose of a third ticket and 10 minutes recess, about your choices made
4 checkmarks – lose of a fourth ticket, all of recess, and parent will be contacted by the teacher.
Office referrals are based on the type of misbehavior or choice being made at teacher’s discretion)

Every student starts with a clean slate each day.

Classwork and Homework
Most of our assignments will be completed in class. Any unfinished classwork can be completed at home if necessary. Each student will have an absence folder. All missed assignments will be placed into the folder for the student, and should be completed by Friday of the same week. For Friday absences, work is due by the following Tuesday.

Throughout the year, you will be given homework to complete on your own. I believe that homework is important because it will help you to review what we have learned in class as well as help you develop positive study habits.

Always put forth your best effort on any class and/or homework assignments. I expect all work to be neat and complete. Please try to do the work on your own and only ask for help after you have given it your best effort. Choose a quiet, comfortable place at home to complete homework.

Your assignment book must be filled out completely by the end of each day. It should match your teacher’s sheet that is displayed in the front of the room. Failure to complete your assignment book may cost you a dollar.

Graded Papers
All graded papers will be sent home on Tuesday. Parents should sign your agenda and behavior sheet to indicate that they have seen your graded work and know if any behavioral consequences were given out during the previous week.

Fifth grade is fun and challenging. Do your best to come to school each day well rested and ready to learn!
