WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?
READING
We are reading chapter books in guided reading. The kids should be reading longer books and passages in thier instructoin as well as for pleasure. Our focus now is story elements and vocabulary development. Keep reading 15 minutes each night. I'm encouraging students to read many different kinds of books. Fiction as well as nonfiction.
MATH
We are working on counting back change, adding, and subtracting money. Adding and subtracting large numbers are a skill needing more practice. The students will have an extra math home work. It will be assigned on Tuesday and due on Friday.
SOCIAL STUDIES
We have been learning about the 3 branches of our government, their responsibilities, and checks and balances. Next week we'll start on map skills.
WRITING
We have worked on descriptive paragraphs and are now working on how to write a good narrative. We'll work on writing a personal narrative for the next two weeks.
ENGLISH
We have been learning about sentence structure, subjects and predicates. Our next focus will be the four kinds of sentences.
