The 2nd nine weeks focus for writitng will be response to literature. Students will respond to what they read in a variety of way. They will have opportunities to respond using different learning styles as well as using higher order thinking skills.A new book report will also be assigned and due in December. This time students should pick an historical fiction book. It needs to be a chapter book with at least 75 or more page.
In English we will work on dictionary skills this nine weeks. Students will use dictionaries to learn new vocabulary words. We'll also use a thesaurus to find synonyms and antonyms.We'l continue to work on nouns. Possive nouns. singular and plural nouns, and proper nouns. Our next focus in English grammar will be verbs.
In reading we'll continue to read both fiction and nonfoction focusing on vocabulary building and comprhernsion skill. Don't forget students should have 6 responses to literature in their red journals by October 30. This is for the 25 book reading goal.The next check point for the 25 book gaol is Jau. 8. Student should have 12 books by then. Kids should be reading 80 minutes a week at home for homework. You may break it up any way that works for your family. Most kids like to read about 20 minutes a night for 4 nights.
