Speech Suggestions

We hope everyone is enjoying all the special activities, both inside and outside, at this time of year!  We are including some ideas for Keheley Cougars to incorporate speech practice while enjoying Holiday activities.  Let us know if you try any of them!

For students working on specific speech sounds:

1. Have the student practice his/her correct sound while singing favorite Holiday songs.

2.  Have your student read a recipe aloud, practicing correct sound placement.

For Language students:

1. Have your student retell a Holiday story read to him/her.  Have the student tell the main character, setting and specifc events.  Have him/her answer questions about it.

2.  Have your student orally sequence the steps for baking cookies, etc.

3.  Have your student retell the events in a Holiday song.

4.  Have him/her make up a wintry story.

For Fluency students:

1.  Have him/her retell a Holiday story using smooth and easy speech.

2.  Have the child sequence a Holiday activity using smooth speech.

For Voice students:

1.  Have them limit excessive and yelling and screaming.  Try a whistle instead.

2.  Have them drink plenty of water in order to hydrate their throat.

Happy Holidays from Mrs. Bragg and Mrs. Sommer!

November Notes

We can't believe how fast this year is going!  It's almost Thanksgiving already!  Students in speech are continuing to work on a variety of objectives:  some are working on their speech sounds, whereas others  are working on vocabulary and story retelling.  We have been talking about our speech standards.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday and a wonderful week off from school!

October Happenings in Speech

Some of the groups have been reading Amelia Bedelia books.  They love them!  We have been using the books to discuss multiple meaning words and homonyms.

Some groups are continuing to use the "Braidy" visual story grammar "doll" to help with story retelling.  It really does help them to remember the different story elements.

Some of the students working on a particular sound have really been progressing!  We are hearing stronger R's, S's and G's.  Great work!

Speech Happenings

Some of the speech students have been working with "Braidy,  the storytelling "doll".  Using Braidy enables the student to recall specific story events in the proper sequence.  It helps them to remember to tell about the character, setting, the feelings portrayed, and what event was the "kickoff" (or the initiating event to the action of the story).

Other students have been working on stories that have figurative vs literal meanings of specific words or expressions. Some students have been using Amelia Bedelia books for this.

Those students working on specific sounds are continuing to be more aware of when they use their correct sound and when they forget.

Some students have been doing a fantastic job with completing and returning their speech homework!  Keep up the good work!

Off To A Great Start!

The speech schedules are running fairly smoothly now!  We are all "in the groove" of knowing which days are speech days and what time is "speech time".  Please look for speech homework once each week, for most weeks.  If anyone did complete a summer speech packet, please remember for your student to return it for credit (a prize!).  We want those students who put out the effort to receive credit.  Please work on homework sheets with your child to ensure carryover of addressed concepts or sounds.  Thanks for all your support!

Welcome To A New Year in Speech!

Welcome to all new and returning Keheley speech students!  Mrs. Bragg  and Mrs. Sommer will be at Keheley once again. We will be here on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

We have been showing the students the new speech room locations this week.  We will be sending home speech folders next week.  The folders will have speech days listed on them.  Please help your student practice any speech homework throughout the year.  When completed, please sign it and have your child return it for credit.

We look forward to having a fantastic year with your child!  Please let us know if you have any questions.
