Happy Valentine's Day to my students and their families! Enjoy this special day of love!
Third Grade- We have been busy measuring all sorts of objects in Math. We are completing our unit on measurement as we learn about the perimeter and area of many shapes. Please continue to encourage your child to practice multiplication facts for mastery! Our sound pattern of the week is the sound of 'le' as in the word 'juggle'. As we learn to read and spell two syllable words with this pattern, we will also study the rules for dividing words into syllables. The students have worked very hard writing about animals from georgia habitats. They used the writing process to create three paragraph pieces that included information taken from books, the encyclopedia, and the internet. We have proudly displayed them on our hall bulletin board for all to read and enjoy!
Second Grade- We will begin learning about addition of three digit numbers in Math. We will use manipulatives, such as base 10 models place value mats, and the Smart Board to help us understand why we need to sometimes regroup as we add. Our vowel pattern of the week is the sound of 'aw' as in 'paw' and 'hall'. We will make a 'paw' book of words and pictures with this sound. We will read a story titled A Walk in the Woods as we learn about nonfiction books and the 'captions' under the many photographs.
First Grade- In Math we have been learning about graphs. We have used tally marks to create graphs. Our Smart Board is a great way to create these graphs! We will also begin our money unit as we expand upon the skills we learned earlier in the year. Our vowel pattern of the week is the sound of long 'o' as in the word 'note'. We will make a 'rope' book of long 'o' words and pictures. We will read a book titled Good Morning, Bears as we learn about story sequence.
