d Grade-
The students have done a great job counting coins and bills. They have been using the Touch Money program as a strategy to work with money. We will complete this unit this week as the students have an opportunity to use a cash register and purchase items in our classroom store as a culminating performance task.
In Reading we will be working with both fiction and nonfiction books. We will read a set of 'pair-it' books titled A Surprise Trip to the Store and Count Your Money. The children will learn to make connections between the two books and how they relate to their world of money.
Our vowel pattern this week is the sound of /ea/ as in the word 'eat'. We will make a book of homophone pairs, including 'meet' and 'meat', 'see' and 'sea', as well as 'beet' and 'beat'.
Third Grade-
Wow! I am so proud of my third grade students! They worked very hard and tried their best as they completed the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. We are all ready to get back to our regular schedule and continue learning our third grade standards.
In Math we are discovering the meaning of multiplication by creating groups and making arrays. We are multiplying by 2 and 3 using the sequence counting strategy. Encourage your child to practice multiplication facts at home beginning with the 2's.
Our vowel pattern this week is the sound of long /o/ as in the word 'drove'. The students are beginning to recognize these spelling patterns in their everyday reading and writing.
In Reading we will read a book titled Fossils. We will create a flow map to help us in sequencing facts from a nonfiction book. We will also have the opportunity to pretend we are digging for fossils. The children will then write about their experience.
