Hello Parents and Students!
Remember to be working on your Valentine's Day cards, boxes or bags.
Our school dance is this Friday, February 10th...hope to see lots of you there!
Learning Targets/Standards for the next 2 weeks:
Language Arts- "Bossy R"... when "r" follows a vowel, it controls the the sound of the vowel. The "r" controlled vowels are: ar, er, ir, or, and ur. Next week, we will work on plurals, adding es and s.
Shared/Guided Reading- We continue to really work hard on reading fluently and comprehension. We are reading nonfiction texts and identifying all the features a nonfiction book has (table of contents, glossary, bold print, labels, diagrams, headings, photographs, and an index).
PLEASE be sure you are having your child read to you for 10 or minutes each night. Your child will be a more successful reader if this time is set in your home. Research has shown that it works! Remember it's not enough to just listen to your child read, kiss the child goodnight and leave the room. You must also work on comprehension. A GREAT way to determine if your child comprehends is to discuss it with him or her. Enjoy the special time you have to do this...they are growing up fast!
Writer's Workshop- Informational Writing on Ladybugs.
Math- We are beginning our unit on time. We will be learning the relationship between the hour hand and minute hand as well as learn to tell time to the hour and half hour.
Science- We will be learning about the plant parts and the needs of a plant.
Technology- Typing and inserting clip art in a Word document...this is difficult for some of our students. If your child has computer time at home, have them practice this standard at home! They will be assessed on this at the end of our nine weeks.
Have a wonderful week!
