Learning Targets!
Math- Show me the money! We are learning to count coin combinations up to a dollar. The children are learning to use quarters when counting coins to a dollar. Combining quarters, nickels, and dimes can get confusing. The more your child practices the easier it will become.
Reading- We are learning about nonfiction books. Ask your child how he/she know if the book is nonfiction. When your child reads, be sure to work on their reading fluency and to ask questions to build reading comprehension.
Language Arts- We are learning about verbs. Can you child identify verbs in a sentence? Also, we will be learning about root words/base words . For example, the root word for running is run.
Writing- We are writing informational stories. The children are focused on writing a “how to” story. We are adding transition words (first, next, then, after that, last, finally) to his/her writing to explain the steps on “how to” do something. The children understand when and how to use transition words but we are looking for a lot of details as he/she writes. Also, we are really focusing on capital letters and punctuation in the appropriate places. Good writers always check their work!
Social Studies- Who is Harriet Tubman? What is the Underground Railroad? The children will read about and describe the life of Harriet Tubman.
Technology- We are working using Word on the computer. The children will learn how to insert a picture, type sentences with capital letters and punctuation. You can have your child practice this at home. How savvy is your child on the computer?
Have a great 2 weeks!
