Class News

This Ms. Mikula's last week.  It is bitter sweet for me.  She has done an amazing job with our class and learned a lot.  I am proud to say that Ms. Mikula won't be going far but just down the hall to supply teach for 3 weeks in a kindergarten classroom.   

Reminders:

• Holiday Lunch is on Thursday, Nov. 17^th from 10:34-11:04.  Our lunchroom staff always serves a delicious lunch!  Meet us in the atrium and hop into line with your child.
• We will be eating lunch in the classroom on Friday.  If your child is buying their lunch that day, they will be getting a sack lunch with the choice of ham and cheese or peanut butter and jelly.  Please do not plan on eating with your child for lunch that day because we will be eating at a different time and a different location.
• Thanksgiving Holiday Break is the week of November 21st.  I know our students and teachers are ready for this much needed break!!!   Enjoy your time with family and friends.  I know I will and I will also be counting my blessings for 15 wonderful students and their supporting families!  Thanks for sharing your children with me and all your continued and positive support.  It means a lot!
• PLEASE send in your holiday donations for our WINTER party.  THANKS!!!

First Grade Performance is on Tuesday, Nov. 29^th at 6:30!   Please have your child report to our classroom at 6:15 PM.  Remember to bring those cameras!

Learning Targets/ Standards:

Writing- We will be editing and revising their cute narrative stories about the disguised turkeys.  The kids turkeys are adorable.  Thanks for helping your child with this project! 

Math -3D shapes 

Language Arts- We will be comparing character traits of different characters, recalling nonfiction information, and creating new endings to stories.

Social Studies- Who were Lewis and Clark and wha aret some of their contibutions?

Be on the look out for a math turkey your child will be bringing home on Friday!  Please know that the turkey feathers are all math standards that have been covered since our first week of school.  You can use these as a tool at home to review for our end of the nine week assessments in December.  Just change numbers around.

Class News

Class News for Nov. 7- Nov. 18

Just a BIG SHOUT to all of you for attending parent/teacher conferences with us last week!  It was so nice to sit and discuss how your child is doing with his/her standards and what we can do to continue to see your child show growth in first grade.  Rememeber any time you have a question or concern please don't hesitate to ask by a note, email or phone call.

This past week our “firsties” have been very busy learning about compound words, narrative writing, balanced equations and missing addends, and magnets!

**Ask your child what an object has to have in it in order for it to be magnetic.

Your child brought home directions for a turkey that they need to “disguise.” Please help your child “disguise” their turkey and have them bring their finished product to school on Monday, Nov. 7th...THANKS!!!

The students have been very good about remembering to bring their library books back every Friday. Keep up the good work!

Learning Targets/Standards for the next two weeks:

Math- Nov. 7-11th: Plane shapes (square, rectangle, triangle, circle, pentagon, and hexagon). How many sides and corners does each shape have?

Nov. 14-18th: 3D shapes (cone, cylinder, and rectangular prism)

Language Arts- Compound words (lip + stick= lipstick) and inflectional endings (-ing, -ed, -est)

Writing- The students will write a narrative about the turkey that they “disguised”

Social Studies- Thomas Jefferson, Lewis and Clark, and Sacagawea

Please remember to help out with our Keheley Food Drive!  The children LOVE to know that they help others by bringing their items in and taking them to the stage!
