Just a couple of reminders:
We still need students to send in Performing Arts permission forms and don't forget about our upcoming field trip to the apple orchard. Please know that is Cobb County policy that I must have a signed permission slip on every student in order for them to leave school campus!
Media Center is every Friday. Please help your child to remember his/her books each week. THANKS!!!
Healthy snacks only...we have had students eating cookies! Snack is for a quick pick me up, we don't want pure sugar! Thanks to Luke's mom for sending in extra healthy snacks for those who might forget!
A BIG SHOUT to those of you that have volunteered for our field trip to Hillcrest Orchards. We NO longer any more people to volunteer!
As students bring home guided reading books, please return them the very next day! I use these with multiple groups and if all are not returned we don't have enough!
Math – Subtraction to 12 - We will review the standard and vocabulary (subtract, take away, minus, how many left?).
Have a look at what we are reviewing in math tubs, calendar and number talk:
1. Place Value - identifying tens and ones in a given number (19 is 1 ten and 9 ones)
2. Simple addition to 12...Using the counting on strategy to add two numbers (put one number in your head and count on to find the sum), adding zero to a number, using a number line and drawing a quick picture are the startegies we are using.
3. Math problem solving (pictures, numbers, 2 or more math words and a number sentence)
4. Graphs, days of the week and months of the year, counting coin combinations up to 30 cents (pennies, nickels and dimes), skip counting in 5's and 10's, 10 more and 10 less on a hundreds chart.
Literacy - responding to stories and poems, initial letter sounds, short vowels, antonyms (opposites such as happy and sad, tall and short), synonyms (words that means the same thing but are spelled differently such as big and large, sad and unhappy).
Writer's workshop - writing a personal narrative. Identifying a complete sentence (capital letter at beginning, punctuation at the end, tells a complete idea or thought and must be written legibly with finger spaces)...CUPS. Having a good beginning when writing is so important so we have been creating anchor charts for all students to use as this can be tricky for first graders.
Narrative story elements - making predictions, identify the main character(s) and the setting. Identify the problem (plot) in the story and retelling 3 events.
Health- we will discuss nutrition and personal/mental health.
Have a wonderful week!
Bye For Now!!!
