Standards for the Week!
Reading- We are discussing how we retell events in the story. The standard for the current 9 weeks is to retell 4 or more events in order of the story. How well can your child retell 4 events? We are working on 3 events and we will build to 4 events quickly.
Writing- We will continue to work on writing personal narratives. The children are learning to add more
details to their sentences. No more sentences with 3 or 4 words!
Math- The children will learn about a fact family. A fact family are 3 numbers that are
related. Fact families will only use the 3 numbers to create 2 addition sentences and 2 subtraction sentences. Such as:
2, 3, 5
2 + 3 = 5
3 + 2 = 5
5 - 2 = 3
5 - 3 = 2
We continue to learn about subtraction. The children will understand what to subtract means (take away). This can get some children confused on addition and subtraction symbols. Start getting your
child use to seeing both symbols so they can recognize each in a snap! Also, we will continue to make tens and ones (place value) with numbers up to 30.
Social Studies- We continue to talk about where we live. We will use maps to discuss our city, county, country, continent, and state.
